I love social media, travelling, making things, jalapenos, movies and my awesome hometown of Glasgow, Scotland.
I have a degree in English Literature and Film and have worked in online and direct marketing, event-coordination, festival project management and PR since graduating two years ago. I also do a bit of freelance journalism.
I'm hugely passionate about the web and love working with small businesses, non-profits, charities and arts organisations to show them how they can maximise their online presence to spread the word about what they do. I'm really interested in working with DMOs - a lot of my festival work was closely related to destination marketing. I've recently moved back to Scotland after living and working in London and would love to get involved in the exciting things I see happening in Scotland's tourism industries.
My interest in Web 2.0:
I think the web industry is one of the most exciting places in the world. I'm continually amazed by the creativity and innovation of the online community and think that the impact of web technologies is surely the most significant cultural shift since the Industrial Revolution. I want to be a part of that!
I love to strategise creatively and really enjoy the collaborative and democratic nature of online communication. I'm a blog-addict - both writing for my own blogs, and negotiating my over-stuffed GoogleReader feed - a social media geek, a would-be web designer (although CSS-tweaking in WordPress is as far as I go at the moment!), a big dreamer, and I have far too many apps on my iPhone.
I want to learn more about social media developments and converse and connect with other online marketers. Ultimately - after a few years more hands-on experience - I hope to establish my own social media consultancy aimed at non-profits and charities and offering a uniquely holistic approach aimed at equipping organisations with the tools and knowledge to use social media and online marketing confidently and effectively. That's the dream!
